Introduction

India is a country with varied geographies with the Himalayas in the north, the beautiful beaches in the south, the wet and humid terrain of the east and the hot and arid region of the west, popularly known as the Thar region. The state of Rajasthan which is as famous for its sand dunes as for its heritage palaces is also known as the home for various camel safaris. The desert state is best explored on a camel back, be it the grand palaces or the gigantic sand dunes. The real adventure lies in those camel safaris which takes you to the interiors of the desert state. The hollowness of the desert fills your soul with a feeling of being with the extremist form of nature.

As the night comes by camping near a pool side or in some remote village gives you an insight of the lives of rural people. The camel safari helps you in discovering the culture and various traditions of the desert area. The night brings chillness in the wind which cuts through your body, at this time sitting near the campfire and enjoying the local music and dance is an experience of a life time.

The journey across the desert is an exhilarating and an enriching experience. At times you may also come across the local travelers dressed in the attire with their camel saddled with various handicraft goods. Many camel safaris also take you to the ancient routes through which various ancient armies has marched on.

The camel safaris not only take you to remote villages of the Thar Desert but also give you the option to explore various cities of Rajasthan on a camel back. The city tours on camel give you immense time to absorb the vibrant energy of the cities and also notice the archeological heritage with minute details.

The best time to go on for a camel safari is in winters, ideally the period from November to March is suited best for this purpose. The summers are unbearably hot and dry so it is not advisable to travel in that period. During the winters the days are warm and the nights gets chilly so it is recommended to carry lot of woolen clothes such as pullovers and jackets. Although the organizers provide you with proper bedding still it is better to carry a good warm sleeping bag. During the day its better to wear cotton clothes and loose fitted ones and wear shoes, avoid exposing your skin as much as possible or you'll get a sun burn. It’s a good idea to carry along extra blankets to cover the wooden saddle which you’ll probably be sitting on, they help you in preventing a sore back from the day’s ride. A first aid kit is a must to carry which should include aspirins, bandages, antiseptic, ORS among other things.

While visiting the villages try to follow the customs of the place and dress appropriately. A camel safari is truly an unforgettable experience for any adventure enthusiast.
