Camel Safari at Desert National Park
 

Desert National Park The sandy regions in the surrounding area of Jaisalmer has been declared a National Park. This park has a very delicate eco system and hence needs to be protected from getting destroyed or even harmed. The wildlife of the park include the Indian Bustard that has been brought back from the stage of extinction by great efforts from the government and local people. Apart from this, other wildlife attraction include desert hare, hedgehog, Indian wolf, desert fox, desert gerbil, the spiny- tail lizard, desert monitors, san- dfish, chameleons and snakes like deadly saw-scaled viper and Sind krait. There are also a considerable number of birds to be found in the park like Gray partridge, quails, peafowl, bee-eaters, shrikes, orioles, drongos. warblers and babblers. Camel Safari can be enjoyed in the Desert National Park.

About the Park
The Desert National Park is one of the largest national park in India, established in 1980 is situated in the west Indian state of Rajasthan near Jaisalmer city. The varied ecosystem of Thar supports a unique and diverse wildlife in the national park spanning over an area of 3162 sq.km.

Climate
The climate of the national park becomes very hot in summer with temperature rises up to 50 degrees C while in winter the temperature varies between 25 to 10 degrees C. The most ideal time to visit the park is between November to March.

Wildlife Attractions in the Desert National Park
Flora : The desert climate only allow a few type of small grasses, shrubs and xerophytic trees and therefore its not suitable for large herbivorous.

Fauna : The various inhabitants include the black buck, chinkara, wolf, Indian fox, desert fox, hare, desert cat, Bengal fox. The park is also very rich in reptiles such as monitor lizard, saw sealed viper, Sind krait, Russel's viper, sandfish are found in a large number.

Avifauna : The national Park is a home to a rich variety of avian species including various migratory. The principal bird species includes sandgrouse, partridges, bee-eaters, larks, Demoiselle crane, houbara, steppe eagles, falcons and the great Indian bustard. .

Other Attractions
Jaisalmer Fort : The fort is made of golden and yellow sand stone which houses several lovely palaces, temples and several gateways.

Sudashri forest post : This is an ideal place for observing wildlife of Desert National Park.

The Havelies : There are several Havelis in Jaisalmer like Patwon -Ki-Haveli, Salim Singh ki Haveli represents the architectural brilliance of Rajput.

Park Trips
The park can be explored by a jeep safari and the jeeps can be hired from the hotels or the local jeep operators.

How to Get There
Air : The nearest airport is at Jodhpur which is 290 kms from the park.

Rail : The nearest railway station is at Jaisalmer which connects it to cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Mumbai

Road : A good motorable road network with regular bus services links the park to all the major destinations in and around Rajasthan.
