Shimla Facilitates Many Trekking Adventure
Attention trekkers! There are many opportunities for short and long treks from Shimla. Chharabra at 2,953m is 13km away while Naldhera at 2,044m is 23km from Shimla. From Narkanda (2,700m) which is 64 km away form Shimla, you’ll find a great trek to Hattu Peak. The road from Narkanda runs down to the Sutlej Valley and enters Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur. (Note – Foreigners need permits to enter Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur.)
Jalori Pass Trek
Another lovely trek just beyond Narkanda goes northwest over the Jalori Pass (3,350m) in the Seraj region. You can start from the Ani village – reached by bus or jeep from Luhri in the Sutlej Valley below Narkanda – and trek into the lower part of the Kullu Valley, joining the Kullu-Manali road at Aut. There is a jeepable road over much of this route.
Bashleo Pass
Alternatively you can proceed to Rampur (65km from Narkanda) and then trek into the Kullu Valley via the Bashleo Pass (3,600 m). There are many forest rest houses enroute so a tent is not required unless you wish to camp out under the stars. Both treks end at Banjar in Tirthan Valley from where you can catch a bus to Kullu.
