Himachal is set on the world map for its Paragliding sport and for its continues hosting of the Pre-world cup paragliding event since 2000. The sky is dotted with hundreds of human eagles under beautiful and brightly colored canopies of various sizes and shapes. . This event is being organized by the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with the Paragliding World Cup Association France and with the support of the Department of Tourism, Government of India, Ministry of Youth Services & Sports, Government of India and the Western Himalayan Mountaineering Institute located at Manali.

The world record for out and return paragliding was set in 1992 at Bir-Billing by Frenchman Xavior Redmond when he flew 132.5 Kms. from Bir.

Billing (2300 M) one of the most beautiful district of Kangra just 14 Kms from Bir offers opportunities for high altitude cross country flying for more then 200 Kms. The magnificent view of the Dhauladhar ranges of snow clad mountains inspires the sailers to touch new hights and set unmatched record.

Bir also has a Tibetan monastery and is surrounded by tea gardens and wide fields. The small towns of Taragarh, Baijnath and Jogindernagar are close to Bir-Billing.The larger town of Palampur is 29 Kms.from bir.

Another spot which is more frequented by tourist is the Solang Valley (Solang Nullah). Guided / Piloted paragliding is done here every clear day. One can enjoy the short fly of 5 minutes to and half an hour high fly paragliding. Beautiful meadows surrounded by Silver Oaks and spurs, offers views of Glaciers and snow capped mountains while you fly with the Himalayan eagles.
