Introduction

India is known for its underwater resources and vast marine life. The best way to explore this rich underwater natural heritage is through scuba diving and snorkeling. Scuba diving in India is an exciting sport that has caught the attention of divers from all parts of the world. Each year hundreds of tourists visit India to explore and experience the beautiful and amazing marine life and corals found in the surrounding waters.

Untouched by pollution the blue green, turquoise waters are home for the magical and mysterious underwater world coral reefs, shells and a variety of marine life. Scuba diving is done usually at secluded places which are not known to others so as to explore the unknown world of marine life. The scuba diving gives you a chance to spot some of the most diverse and exotic forms of life on earth. The fascinating formations of fishes, tuna eels, damsels, lion fish, goat fish, snapper jack, many other multicolored and patterned fishes and a lot more to look out for, the experience of underwater diving is beyond imagination.

Scuba diving and snorkeling can be undertaken by any healthy human being. All you need to enjoy them is good physical and mental health. Some basic swimming skills are necessary. While snorkeling is for kids and families, scuba diving requires some practice and comfort level with the equipment and then also you are accompanied by two trained scuba divers The equipments you need for scuba diving are facemask, snorkel, fins, dive tank and buoyancy jacket.

The scuba diving and snorkeling adventure in India involves two Tropical Island destinations of the country - Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshwadeep Islands. The islands of Andaman & nicobar are home to one of the most exquisite and richest coral reef ecosystem in the world. The lakshwadeep islands have many unexplored and mesmerizing scuba diving destinations which have abundance of marine life and coral reefs. These sports are also available in some beaches in goa and Karnataka where you can spot some very beautiful marine life.

This adventure sport attracts a lot of people towards is as it has a very low risk factor. However you should take necessary precautions and check the diving before entering into the waters. To cut down the risks involved you should always dive with at least two divers. The coral areas and lagoons of Andaman / Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands are protected regions. Try not to damage plants, disturb the wildlife and do not leave any garbage behind.
